A Non-player character, often shortened to NPC, is a term applied to a video game character that players have no control over and no “control” over themselves. They are a programmed product of the game itself.

NPCs include both friendly and non-friendly computer-controlled entities, although usually the term is used to refer to friendlies (enemies usually being referred to as "monsters"). 

Friendly NPCs can usually talk to players, either disseminating information which may or may not be important and/or amusing, providing a service, such as a store or helpful ability, or serving as a plot point, allowing the player to further the game's story.

Unfriendly NPCs will in general attack the player, and must usually be avoided or engaged. Can also be sneaky in their unfriendliness. 

*The NPC personality is like an addiction. It is a habitual pattern that has become your identity. It will require persistent effort and repetition to redo this program.

  • The Player has been “cursed” or handicapped with the Illusion Spell of NPC programming. One of the first Main Quests is to undo this spell.
  • NPC’s have quests (preprogrammed) but they do not ACCEPT quests. No engagement.
  • The NPC can only repeat its program. It does not engage innovatively. They can only Re-Act.
  • When questioned, tends give the response that's how its always been/has to be done
